A few German tanks

The german Whermacht and Volksgrenadier squads are well underway, so in order to start playtesting for good, I still need tanks and ordnance.  Here are 3 german tanks, an early panther and a PzKpfW IV G and H.  I tried to paint them in Western camo, which was relatively common in Normandy through Bastogne.

Mini magnets for tanks

My sample shipment of mini magnets came through.  I intend to use them in order to have magnetized tank turrets.  They don't fall off and they turn really smoothly.  Put the first pair in, which wasn't easy.  I really have to get a non-magnetic pincet, and a new drill that makes clean 2mm holes, because the one I have now is not in good shape.

Therer definitely is some technique involved in mounting the magnets:  do it the wrong way and before you know it you have magnets covered in superglue flying around.

US and GE Tanks Cards

Here is the second version of the German tank cards, and the first version of the US cards.  I still have to double check the US cards for errors, and I am waiting for some answers on armor questions, as well as cross check data on the penetration and muzzle velocity of the 76 mm M1, My data are inconsistent.  For now I have put it on a par with the German 75 mm KwK gun used on the IVh.

German tank cards

I'm preparing everything to test the tank rules.  I do not expect a lot of difficulties, although we will have to determine all the hit modifiers while testing: we will start with the following:

Range modifier: as indicated on To Hit Table
Size modifier: as indicated on tank card
Changing firing arc:
Normal turret: -1
Slow turret: -2
No turret: -4
Moving target ≤ 10 cm: -1
Moving target > 10 cm : -2
Dashing (defense fire, target start out of sight): -2
Partially visible: dice roll determines hit location

German Tanks in version 0.1

Here is the Tank ID Card which will be used in game.  The player has a card for every type of combat vehicle in game.  The cards feature all relevant info needed in game: Tank name, main gun type, rate, penetration and ammo types, machine guns, armor on turret and hull front, side and rear, movement allowance, crew survival, and smoke availability.

And these are the tanks available at the outset.  Evidently, this list will grow, and more obscure vehicles will be features eventually, but these 5 offer a good starting point.

PzKpfW IV F2/G (rare by D-Day)

 PzKpfW IV H/J (common)

PzKpfW V G 'Panther' (quite common)

PzKpfW VI E 'Tiger' (quite rare)
PzKpfW VI 'Königstiger' (rare)
